PEACE, PROMISED & PROTECTED... (My poem inspired by Alfreton's WW1 memorial...)

 Peace, Promised & Protected…

(Alfreton’s War Memorial…)

An expression of wistfulness,

A stance relaxed, unthreatening.

A gaze upwards, tilting

Towards a stark wilderness

And the future seen. An enlightening

Sense of promise, protection and peacefulness

For the child and the infantryman, embracing…

For their legacy is love, enduring…

A glimmer of hope detected,

With a French child freed.

A shiver of war reflected,

Yet he is steadfast in deed…

A shimmer of peace reflected,

With his own child reunited.

A shiver of tears detected,

 For their love is requited…
