THE WIND & THE FLAT OCEAN... (My new poem about Mousehole & Church Cove, Gunwalloe, Cornwall...)

The Wind & The Flat Ocean…

(Church Cove, Cornwall, 25th June 2026…)

A brisk breeze which vied with the excessive heat across

Mousehole’s harbour during the morning was certainly surprising

But quite invigorating, nevertheless.

Incongruously however, the sea seemed a little restless and its tide a squall,

As jostling waves with sunlit white tips deflected with some vigour

From stubborn outcrops of rock, then blundered on into the shore…

A strong wind, which railed at the bright sunlight across

Church Cove’s beach during the afternoon was certainly surprising,

Yet rather intriguing, nevertheless.

Unexpectedly though, the sea seemed rather tame and its tide weak and small,

As rippling water lapped on shingle, lacking thrust or rigour,

Over smooth, flat, charcoal grey stones, littered upon the shore…

Pete Ray…

26th June 2026…

Such a difference between sultry, yet slightly breezy Mousehole in the morning, with a brisk sea, to the windy, yet fairly warm Church Cove, Gunwalloe after lunch, with shallows like a lake’s edge…
