Firefish Over Dubrovnik…
As I stared out from the city walls, a strangely insipid sky
Seemed too pallid to be real, more like white and weak blue
Mixes of pastel paint daubed upon an artist’s palette, awaiting use.
Soon the expanse of shifting, blotched cloud was rather eerily
Infused by a huge, intrusive hulk of inky darkness, high
Above the bay, a monstrous fish of threatening deep blue,
Whose predatory mouth scowled, wretched and loose
Across the sun, as one burning white eye scoured the sky-scape wilfully…
